The Day Skipper course starting 25 October is an excellent introduction to boating for all members of the crew and family, even those new to boating. It applies to a wide range of vessels and covers what you need to know to keep safe and have more confidence out on the water.
“Waiheke is a boaties paradise – let’s make it a safe summer on the water,” says Tutor Christie Ralphs. “I’d encourage everyone who goes out boating, even if you are not ‘in charge’, to do a Coastguard boating course. If you are in charge on a boat you are required to be a responsible skipper, know the ‘rules of the road’ and how to navigate. Everyone should also know what to do in an emergency, and ensure they have the right equipment.”
The course runs on Monday evenings for 7 weeks, starting 25 October and participants will have the chance to gain the NZ Day Skipper Certificate. The course costs $195 including the Coastguard workbook and assessment pack.
