Katherine Mowbray is returning to Waiheke with a new 1 Day course on Saturday 11 February. The course will demonstrate how to make Halloumi, Ricotta and Feta, all from one bucket of milk, with a bit of marscapone on the side. Even if you’re not lucky enough to have your own cow or goat you can learn to make these three delicious cheeses using shop bought milk. And there’s a special discount for groups of three or more friends.

The course is on Tuesdays 6pm to 8.30pm starting from 1 November.

She believes that everyone can be a gardener, and it doesn’t have to be expensive or complicated to create a successful garden. The course is not just for those new to gardening, but also for people wanting to address particular issues or just looking for inspiration in the garden. The course includes practical work and plenty of garden visits, so bring your gardening shoes!

The course is usually run on the island once every 2 years.

Tutor Christie Ralphs says “The Boatmaster course is ideal for boaties with some existing experience who want to increase their knowledge and confidence to deal with different situations.” The course is wide-ranging and informative, with the added benefit of Christy’s local knowledge and experience.

Previous student Michael Green describes the course as essential for all boaties. “I’ve done a fair bit of boating,” he says. “But there’s always more to learn. It’s amazing what you think you know – and don’t.”

This course will cover various techniques in pencil, pen and chalk. A series of guided exercises will help you to develop observational skills and  be able to draw what you see. Suitable for beginners and more advanced.

“Waiheke is a boaties [...]]]> The Day Skipper course starting 25 October is an excellent introduction to boating for all members of the crew and family, even those new to boating. It applies to a wide  range of vessels and covers what you need to know to keep safe and have more confidence out on the water.

“Waiheke is a boaties paradise – let’s make it a safe summer on the water,” says Tutor Christie Ralphs. “I’d encourage everyone who goes out boating, even if you are not ‘in charge’, to do a Coastguard boating course. If you are in charge on a boat you are required to be a responsible skipper, know the ‘rules of the road’ and how to navigate. Everyone should also know what to do in an emergency, and ensure they have the right equipment.”

The course runs on Monday evenings for 7 weeks, starting 25 October and participants will have the chance to gain the NZ Day Skipper Certificate. The course costs $195 including the Coastguard workbook and assessment pack.
